OUR TEAM - Dentists

 

Mariam Clinic has partnered with Wake Smiles to provide Dental Services.  The services at Wake Smiles are also provided by volunteer dentists. They have diverse backgrounds representing various religions, cultures and ethnicity. Many of these volunteers are multilingual, which allows us to effectively communicate with our equally diverse patient population in a more welcoming manner.

Dr. Nedda Ibrahim - Our Volunteer Dental Director

 In 1967, as a young child, Dr Ibrahim immigrated to Raleigh with her family. She attended elementary, middle and high school in Raleigh. After receiving a B.S. degree from N C State University in 1981, Dr. Ibrahim went on to earn a Master of Public Health in 1985 from the UNC School of Public Health at Chapel Hill and then a DDS degree from  the UNC School of Dentistry in 1990. She then started her private dental practice in Raleigh. Dr. Ibrahim is always trying to give back to the community. Dr. Nedda (as her patients like to call her) has spent many hours volunteering for organizations and programs including: Hispanic Ministries Dental Bus, NC State Fair Dental Bus, Wake Smiles Dental Clinic, Project Acess program (seeing patients in her office), Open Door Clinic with Urban Ministries, the newly organized Mariam Dental Clinic at the Salvation Army facility and the Mariam Clinic Dental Bus program, Missions of Mercy Dental Clinics, and the IAR food pantry. In addition, she has also mentored young pre-dental students at NCSU and other area colleges and offered free emergency services at her office to numerous refugees from all over the world.  Continuing to serve after almost 25 years of private practice, Dr. Ibrahim is the past President and current board member of the Raleigh Wake County Dental Society as well as serving as the Executive Director of the RWCDS Dental Foundation. She has been serving since 2009 and continues to serve as CoPresident of the NC Chapter of the American Association of Women Dentists. Dr. Nedda currently serves on the Executive Board and The Finance Committee of  Raleigh Wake Smiles. She was the recipient of the 2014 Mariam Clinic Humanitarian Award in recognition for establishing the Mariam Dental Clinic which now operates on a regular basis. Dr Nazir Ahmed - Our Volunteer Dentist

Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Nazir Ahmad, DDS, MPH has been performing oral surgery and practicing dentistry in North Carolina since 2008. Dr. Ahmad was raised and lived in Raleigh, NC for the past 30 years. He received his undergraduate degree from NC State and Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree (DDS) at the UNC School of Dentristry. Afterwards, he completed a four year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgical residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, VA.

     During his training, Dr. Ahmad pursued a Masters in Public Health (MPH) – Leadership track in order to utilize his skills to benefit the local population in the community.  To understand and better communicate with dentists, Dr. Ahmad is pursuing the fellowship track with the Academy of General Dentistry.  Much of the course load is focused on implants and pre-prosthetic surgery.

 

     Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons are trained, skilled and uniquely qualified to manage and treat a variety of conditions and provide multiple types of care including Dental Implants, extractions, facial trauma, facial deformities, facial reconstruction, oral pathology, and preparation of the mouth for dentures. Utilizing the latest technology and techniques in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, his patients are provided the most advanced diagnosis and surgical care. Dr. Ahmad's commitment to education and clinical excellence through actively pursuing continuing education allows him to provide his patients with the high quality care they deserve.

 

     He currently serves as as Assistant Professor - Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery  at VCU Medical Center. Adjunct Instructor - Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UNC School of Dentistry and Adjunct Assistant Professor    Department of Dental Ecology in the School of Dentistry at UNC School of Dentistry. Volunteering with Mariam clinic gives him satisfaction knowing that he can help someone in his community. 

Dr Saba Jelokhani Mokry - Our Volunteer dentist

Dr. Mokry graduated in 1986 from NC State with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. In 1991 she graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery and was in private practice until 2011. She currently serves as an Adjunct Assitant Professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry for UNC Chapel Hill and the Randolph County Health Department and has done so since 2011. Dr. Mokry believes that giving back to the community is her moral obligation and gives meaning to her life. In November 2005 and 2006 she went to Belize for a dental mission trip, and has volunteered at Wake Smiles since 2003. In 2010 she started a dental mobile clinic in Hyde county, collaborating with the NC Baptist Men. She has also volunteered with Mission of Mercy Clinic, Raleigh Rescue Mission, and numerous other open door clinics and dental buses.

Khalid Nasim - Operations

Khalid Nasim has a Masters degree in Industrial Pharmacy from University of Tennessee, Memphis and MBA from Loyola University of Chicago. He has worked in the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing field for over 40 years. Starting as production supervisor and progressing to VP Technical Operations / General Manager. He has worked for large multinational Pharmaceutical Companies including Rhone Poulenc Rorer, Bayer and Novartis. He retired from Novartis in 2011. In 2012 Khalid relocated to the Cary NC from Denver Colorado to be close to his two sons and 6 grand children living in the area. In 2012 Khalid joined the Mariam Clinic Board and has since then been responsible for overseeing Mariam Clinic Operations. He has also served as Chairman of Mariam Clinic from 2015 to 2019.  Khalid is a Rotarian and likes to do volunteer work in the community.
